What is a targeted grazing business?
Simply put, a targeted grazing business uses livestock (goats and sometimes sheep) to eat unwanted vegetation on customers’ properties, usually without the hazards of chemical herbicides or the disturbance of machinery. If you become a Goats On The Go® member we’ll train you to operate your own grazing business and support you along your way. We’ll also connect you with customers through the two most popular targeted grazing websites in the World: GoatsOnTheGo.com and HireGoats.com.
Why Do targeted grazing business owners become Goats On The Go® members?
Targeted grazing is a great business. You get to work with goats and sheep, be outside, set your own schedule, and there’s real potential for meaningful income. But it’s also hard work with ups and downs, administrative tasks, and plenty of uncertainty.
That’s where Goats On The Go® can help! We’ve been in this business since 2012, so we know the challenges. And, we’ve been helping other businesses succeed since 2016. Here’s how we can help you:
Industry leading training and unlimited coaching

All your customer communications in one place with HireGoats.com
Seamless quoting, booking, and payment options on HireGoats.com (without invoices!)
The industry’s most highly trained and experienced grazing pros sharing information in our online community

In short, we give you the tools you need to stay out there doing great goat work and making customers happy, while minimizing the office drudgery. And, Goats On The Go® members feel supported and part of a community of people sharing the same dream!
ARE GOATS ON THE GO® MEMBERS REQUIRED TO ATTEND TRAINING?
No...but you won't want to miss out on the best targeted grazing business training in the world!
We believe our initial, in-person "Basic Training" gives new targeted grazing businesses a head start of at least two years. And, it will help any established grazing business to realign on the fundamentals, fix critical strategic errors, and increase profitability.
We offer our in-person Basic Training in the early spring and early fall each year (at least), but you don't have to wait to launch your business until after you attend. New members can join anytime and begin accessing our members-only online library of resources. These include:
Quick-start orientation on pricing, branding, and other go-to-market fundamentals
Recorded webinars on specific topics of interest to grazing pros
Recorded supplemental training specifically for large grazing projects
Templates for customer communications and promotions
Project quoting calculator and other business tools
What does it mean to be part of the Goats On The Go® “community”?
When we started helping other grazing businesses in 2016, we were excited to learn how much the grazing pros in our network valued being part of something bigger than themselves — a community of like-minded people who would not only share tips and advice, but who also supported and encouraged each other because they were part of the same movement.
To further facilitate that feeling of community we did two things: (1) we created a private Facebook Group for regular communication among members, and (2) we doubled down on our commitment to meet together in person at training events and at our annual conference. If you become a Goats On The Go® member you won't be required to attend those, and you'll get access to lots of online learning resources on-demand. But, our primary events will continue to be held in-person for the foreseeable future and we encourage you to attend.
We strongly believe that meeting together occasionally in person for training, something that seems archaic in today's world of Zoom, Microsoft Teams, etc, is the secret sauce that makes our community work and keeps our online interactions supportive and valuable in-between.
Are Goats On The Go® Members franchisees? Are there territories?
No. Joining Goats On The Go® simply gives you access to our valuable membership benefits. You operate your business how you want, under your own brand, wherever you like — but with the confidence that comes from being trained and supported by the most prominent name in the targeted grazing industry.
If I become a member, do I have to use the Goats On The Go® name and logo?
No. You’ll keep your company’s identity by using your own name, brand, and logo! But, you’ll get the benefit of being listed on GoatsOnTheGo.com, which is the most popular website in the world with targeted grazing customers. If you’d like help developing your unique brand, we have advice for you based on what we know works in the marketplace.
Are there sales quotas, non-compete clauses, or long term contracts?
Nope! Start serving customers whenever you're ready and operate your business at your own pace. Members pay an annual subscription to access our benefits, but they're under no obligation to continue the subscription when it runs out, and there are no limits on their operation when the subscription ends.
Members must create a HireGoats.com account and listing to join because it serves as our payment collection hub. If you want all the benefits of being a Goats On The Go® member, but you're not quite ready to receive inquiries from customers, we can temporarily hide your listings on both GoatsOnTheGo.com and HireGoats.com until it's time to launch.
What is HireGoats.com?
HireGoats.com is our new marketplace platform that makes it easy for customers to find and hire targeted grazing professionals. Grazing pros on HireGoats.com can chat with customers, send grazing proposals, and even receive payments directly to their bank accounts. Combined with our original website, GoatsOnTheGo.com, a huge percentage of customer Internet traffic flows through our sites.
You don’t need to be a Goats On The Go® member to have a listing on HireGoats.com, but membership includes priority listings on both websites plus training, ongoing support, community, a 15% discount on necessary fencing and equipment, and much more!
Do I need to already own goats, fencing, trucks and trailers to be a member?
No. Some aspiring grazing pros are completely outfitted and ready to launch when they join Goats On The Go®. But many others are at varying stages of their business planning and preparation when they join. Since our training and support can help you avoid costly mistakes and connect you to valuable resources, waiting to invest in the assets you need to launch your grazing business can actually be beneficial.
Eventually, though, you will need access to goats and/or sheep and a way to transport them in order to run a targeted grazing business. But you don't necessarily need to own everything. Let's have a call to discuss the options. To get started, we recommend a minimum of 20 goats and 30 - 50 is often ideal. A herd of this size will get you going on small projects under 10 acres in size and help you decide if you want to grow to tackle large acreage for governments and conservation groups.
We have negotiated exclusive discounts with a prominent national retailer of portable electric fencing on behalf of our affiliates, and our training includes detailed advice about what equipment works best.
WHat does membership cost?
If you complete the “Learn More” form you’ll get a flyer with pricing details, but the upfront cost of becoming a Goats On The Go® member is currently lower than ever before — approximately 35% less than in spring 2026!
We’ve done this by shifting some of the cost of membership to a booking fee applied each time a customer hires you on HireGoats.com. That means less risk for you, as you’ll only pay a booking fee when you get a paid gig. When you’re successful, we’re successful!
Who is behind Goats On The Go®?
You can learn more in the “About Us” section, but briefly, Goats On The Go, LC is owned by Aaron and Nicole Steele in Ames, Iowa. In 2012 the Steeles set out on a crazy adventure with like-minded friends, who were also small farmers, to make a business of targeted grazing and grow their respective farms beyond hobby scale.
Nicole Steele has a degree from the University of Northern Iowa, working part time for Goats On The Go® and part time in a local church. Aaron has backgrounds in community planning and marketing, and he holds an MBA from Iowa State University.
Sounds great! What’s the next step?
Easy! Just complete the “Learn More” form and you’ll get a link to download a flyer that outlines our membership program in more detail. If you’d like to skip that step and talk to someone, schedule an informal Q&A phone call at your convenience to talk with a Goats On The Go® team member experienced in the business of goat grazing. No sales pitch! Just ask us whatever questions you have and we’ll get you the information you need.
