Simple layout app for business cards, brochures, signs, etc.

Wave
Online bookkeeping app that includes quoting and invoicing. “Freemium” model offers a lot with free account.

Google Earth
Study satellite imagery, terrain, and ground cover before you visit a project site. So useful you might be able to quote some projects without visiting the site. A bit complex to use, but worth it. It’s a good idea to download Google Earth Pro on your desktop for serious use. Free!

Free Map Tools
Online mapping tool that does a few things well, like calculating area of a shape you draw on a map — sometimes better than Google Maps or Google Earth for particular tasks.

Trello
Organizational software that is useful for tracking the progress of customer leads, scheduling, and lots of other stuff. Similar to a “kanban board.”

Google Docs
Free word processing, presentation, and spreadsheet software.

Google Voice
A free way to get a business number if you already have a Google/Gmail account. Direct the new number to your existing cell number, and put it into your contacts as “Grazing Customer” or something to that effect. That way you’ll know how to answer the phone.

Zapier
Automation tool that allows many of the apps in this list to talk to each other. Kind of nerdy, but super valuable for reclaiming time from repetitive tasks.

Fields Area Measure
One of many smart phone apps that are useful for walking the boundaries of grazing paddocks to determine the area. If this one doesn’t trip your trigger, search for “planimeter” in the Apple or Google app stores.

Genius Scan
Excellent scanner app for storing business receipts and documents. Connects to Google Docs, Dropbox, and other online storage services.

Picture This
Plant identification app for your phone. Take a photo of the plant in question and the app ID’s it and gives you information.

Rivercast
Taps into the stream gauge network from the USGS to provide real time information about river and stream levels. Find gauges near your projects to know if you have to take fast action in response to rising waters.
